No blog post for a little while, the past week was a very quiet one for us. The ground was still on the quick side for many of our winter horses.

A new week and lots of entries! It could be a busy and exciting week for team McPherson starting today where we run 4 horses at 3 different meetings!

Today we run…

EXPLOITEUR – BANGOR 3:40 –  A lovely old fashioned type, he’s an ex Irish pointer who took a little while to come to himself last season when many of our horses were running below par. Everything he does over hurdles will be a bonus, his future is really as a chaser. He should fun well although, he is a horse that will definitely improve for a run, we’ve done lots of work with him at home but he’s a big lazy horse and he’ll come on for the race. A horse to watch over the season, Eilish who rides him at home every day adores him. A runner for SHAW Racing syndicates, a really well run, friendly syndicate.

GETTHEPOT – BANGOR 4:15 – Talking of SHAW Racing, they have two runners to look forward to at Bangor, Getthepot also runs in their colours in the bumper. We purchased him as a 4yo last season having run in two Irish point to point. He is a different type to Exploiteur, smaller and quicker. He is one we really like and he’s been working well at home. Hopeful of a good run in what will only be his third time on a racecourse, he is one to watch hurdles this season! He should be a fun horse to own for his SHAW Racing owners. Kielan Woods rides both of our runners at Bangor. Would not want the ground to get too testing.

AVIEWTOSEA – CHEPSTOW 4:35 – We have been looking forward to seeing ‘Jack’ on a racecourse since purchasing him at Cheltenham sales last year. We were even more excited when French Dynamite, the horse that beat him by a length, won half of his novice hurdles last season in some good company and ended his season on a rating of 136 over hurdles! Aviewtosea was due to run in a bumper back in the spring when COVID-19 scuppered his plans. He is worth a run or two in bumpers but will really improve over hurdles through the winter. He could be a smart horse over 2-2 1/2 miles this season. Max Kendrick rides Aviewtosea today, Max is having a very impressive season so far.

LONDONIA – SOUTHWELL 7:50 – One who you’ll all know, Londonia is an 8yo and it feels like he’s been around forever. A real character of a horse who has run consistently all summer. He is well and truly exposed now but is down to his last winning mark. He also loves the all-weather surface at Southwell. Would not be surprised to see him run well. William Carver takes the ride!

The Autumn Horses In Training Sale is well under way at Newmarket, lots of horses going through the ring. We will be keeping our eye on the sale to see if we can spot any future stars!

Back to some general racing news…

Some worrying comments from Nick Rust yesterday, it’s a tough time for lots of industries but with no crowds allowed at sporting events the smaller racetracks are really suffering. Read the Racing Post article here.

I’m sure many of you would of watched the streaming of the point to point racing last weekend and if you didn’t, you should! A really great initiative, it was really entertaining to watch the races from Bishops Court and Maisemore. The presenting team led by Cornelius Lysaght were very entertaining and the interviews in between races were informative and fun. Well done to everyone involved, it’s worrying times for point to pointing at the moment and this will hopefully be a positive for the entire industry. The strength of British pointing is growing with many of graduates winning under rules in good races over the past few weeks.

Have a great week!
