Thursday, 24th June | Light Rain | 17°
A grey day this morning at Martins Hill, but that didn’t keep spirits down!
The horses have been in good form this summer, a few winners and lots of placed horses. The patient team here were rewarded when THE DISTANT LADY put another one on the board at Newton Abbott.
We were a little bit worried about the ground going into the race as TDL is very much a good ground horse and we’d had a bit of rain. She handled the ground well though as won by 5 lengths going away at the end. She’s a consistent mare for us having won three races and placed in five more… She stays and gallops to the line. A good day for Kielan who rode a double on the card!
This morning was a relatively easy day for the horses, most did two steady canters on the gallop while a couple went on the loop. One of those was Jessica Rabbit who runs at Cartmel tomorrow. She will give Bradley Roberts his first start riding over hurdles. Bradley has partnered a few winners on the flat under rules as well as a successful spell pointing. He has also ridden some bumper horses for us.
We hope you all enjoyed last weeks edition of The Martins Hill Mercury! We haven’t been making as many as usual due to the majority of the horses being on their summer breaks, we will be releasing more thought the winter. It’s always brilliant to see the feedback from all of you though and really makes it worthwhile.
Watch it HERE if you missed it…
A few entries for us towards the end of the week and over the weekend… we should see the likes of Ask Henry, Missthecuddles, Hattaab and BDR duo Calum Gilhooley and Josie Abbing soon!
Days like yesterday show what a close community we have in racing, a year on from the death of popular and talented jockey, Liam Treadwell, the whole card at Worcester was dedicated to Liam. It was a lovely idea and a good time to celebrate Liam’s life and well as reminding people inside or out of racing that there are always people around you who care. It’s always best to talk to someone if you’re feeling low. Also it’s a reminder for all of us to look out for people, call friends and family members, that one conversation can sometimes save a life.
To end the blog, the football fans amongst you were served a treat last night when France played Portugal and Germany looked in trouble against Hungary! Two 2-2 draws meant that England will face Germany at Wembley on Tuesday!
Have a great weekend…
