Wednesday, 20th January | Rain | 10°

Wednesday morning and a fairly quiet time at the moment, definitely quiet at the yard due to not seeing visiting owners. It’s a difficult time for owners and not for the first time in the past 12 months. Not being able to go racing is one thing, but not being able to visit them at the yard is even worse. We try to do as much as possible on social media to create some interesting content for our followers, but also so our owners can spot their horses.

Also quiet on in terms of runners, heavy ground everywhere and it will only get wetter. Lots of rain due today and maybe even more snow this weekend! Sometimes this is a good time of year to give some of the horses a little break to freshen them up for the spring.

Back at the yard and fresh horses, Cast in Grey, The Distant Lady and Homing Star all came back into training recently and have been on the walker, saddles back on this week. Two of them were behaving. But it was Homing Star who was bucking out of her stable and squealing on the walker, Gwyn would be riding in the school and we suspected that there could be some theatrics. There was nothing of the sort, all behaved themselves!

We had a schooling morning earlier this week, we jumped Getthepot, Hello Buddy, Wilde Water, Phil Healy and Phillapa Sue over hurdles and Lord Scoundrel and Skipthecuddles over fences. All jumped well.

A Wednesday afternoon, but it could be a Saturday. Some lovely jumps fixtures today and we have three runners.

12:55 GETTHEPOT – A nice, compact horse who had finished 5th in his soft ground point to point in Ireland, then finished 4th in a heavy ground bumper at Bangor. He works well at home and we really like him. A good race today on some desperate ground, his future probably lies in handicaps and ultimately over fences. He jumps his hurdles well at home!

2:00 PHILLAPA SUE – A big and beautiful mare by Scorpion, she is a full sister to EYEOFTHESCORPION who we also train. We bought this mare after she had placed in all four of her bumpers in Ireland. She has had a good introduction over in Ireland and will hopefully be a very fun horse here in the UK, with such a great initiative in the program for mares. She is a super jumper and would jump a fence in time. She wouldn’t want the ground to be bottomless but she does have good form on soft ground and she’s big and strong enough to handle it. We look forward to her stable debut after waiting a while to see her on the racecourse after many abandoned meetings.

3:35 SKIPTHECUDDLES – A bit of a legend over the years for us, ‘Westie’ has lots of fans. He is extremely lazy at home and always has been. He does everything at his own pace and he certainly showed that at Doncaster last time out when poor Lilly pushing away for the best part of three miles. He was unfortunately badly hampered over the first fence and that is the last thing that this horse needs. Hopefully today he can show some of his old spark, he is down to a winnable mark.

Kielan rides all three of our runners today!

Our jockeys have been hitting the headlines recently…

Max Kendrick is having a brilliant season and is high in the ranks of the conditional jockeys this season, you can read more about Max HERE… a couple more winners for Max since this was published!

Lilly Pinchin has also had a great first season as a conditional, a double page spread in The Sun newspaper a couple of days ago shows that her hard work is not going unnoticed!

Have a great week!
