Gold Cup Day, arguably the biggest day of the year for National Hunt Racing.

The Gold Cup is the race between the best 3 mile chasers around… Although the Grand National is probably even more popular with the public, inside racing the Gold Cup is the race many spend a lifetime trying to win. Either as a trainer, Jockey, owner or breeder.

To win a Gold Cup you have to have a horse with plenty of speed, they always go such a strong gallop in the first circuit and you need a good position. They actually go about the same speed as the Champion Chase for the first circuit. You also need a horse that stays, getting up the hill strongly to the line is a proper test of stamina. Not many horses have both speed and stamina!

Only the best win the Gold Cup. It looks a brilliant renewal this year, Al Boum Photo aims to win three in a row! More challengers this year though, he will have to put in a career best.

Another story this week is the domination of the Irish, hopefully today we can get a few more points on the board. These Irish horses look different class in many of the top races and yesterday Allaho put in probably the performance of the week. The Ryanair looked like a very competitive race on paper, but Allaho just dominated. When you look at the horses that pulled up in the race, you can see what speed they went in that race, a relentless gallop. A great ride by Rachael Blackmore, what a great jockey she is!

No runners today but have a couple over the weekend…Ask Henry and Hello Buddy head to Uttoxeter tomorrow.

Today we have some more selections for you, a good result yesterday. Flooring Porter winning the stayers at 12/1!
