Thursday and the Nasa Perseverance rover has reported the ground on Mars to be good to firm. We might have to change our transport…

More rain this morning, when will it end? The water table is so high that it only takes a few mm’s of rain to make all of the ground totally saturated again and most racecourses are reporting heavy going. Fontwell passed their morning inspection, there is also jump racing from Leicester (all chase card) and Sandown where we have three runners today.

Onto todays runners…

3:40 – BARRAKHOV & GETTHEPOT – We run two horses in the Novice Hurdle. Barrakhov is a 5yo gelding by Sholokhov, a sire to stay on the right side of at the moment (Don Cossack, Shishkin, Bob Olinger), Barrakhov is a real character at home and can be quite naughty, he is adored by his owners, especially Jackie.  Although he can be naughty at home, on the racecourse he is as good as gold. He’s a horse that will have easier tasks in the future and at this stage he is still learning about what racing is all about. The same can also be said for Getthepot who we run in the same race, he is an Irish pointer by Getaway. He will probably want a sounder surface and there are limited options for him at the moment. He will be a really fun horse for his Shaw Racing owners once we have some better weather! Kielan rides Barrakhov and Lilly rides Getthepot.

4:15 – SKIPTHECUDDLES – One of the most popular horses in the yard, especially amongst our followers online. Skipthecuddles is a horse with lots of ability, but he only uses it when he wants to. His season started at Doncaster where he was hampered early in the race and found himself with ground to make up. That did not suit him and he pulled up. Last time out he ran a blinder at Newbury to finish 3rd, he traveled and jumped for fun. He is a difficult horse to gauge, he goes up our gallop at his own pace! Kielan rides him again today in what looks like a very open handicap, hopefully he doesn’t find the ground too testing and can get into the places.

Fourth lot today was made up of horses that haven’t been on the gallop for some time, a mixture of horses coming back from time off and some young horses. We love seeing exciting young horses develop, it’s the start of the journey for all of them. ‘Carrot’ is a half brother to High Wells, he the chestnut in the pictures below. He is owned by James Finch, his other horses Andaleep and Fleeting Visit were also on the gallops. Eagles Realm ‘Eddie’ was also out this morning, a beautifully bred flat horse who will make an exciting dual purpose prospect, he is for sale. Getthegame, a recent purchase, a mare by Getaway who we bought from Ireland also went out this morning, she is also for sale!

Do contact us if you’re looking to get involved in racehorse ownership…
