Monday morning and finally jump racing started again over the weekend! We haven’t had a lot to talk about over the last two weeks so it’s exciting to have entries again.

The break is a good opportunity for NH jockeys to have a holiday. Kielan was one to enjoy a holiday abroad, while he was away he was nominated for ride of the month for July. Kielans ride on Hattaab was extraordinary and you really have to watch it a few times to believe he got up to win! You can watch the race and vote for Kielan in the link below…

Talking jockeys, we have another returning today. Lilly has been out injured for the past five months after suffering a horrible fall at Chepstow on Grand National day. It’s been a long journey back for Lilly but today she returns to ride at Bangor. She loves riding horses in races and has undoubtedly struggled without having that adrenaline rush, well done to her for getting herself back. Lots of hard work!

We have three runners today at Bangor, one who is returning after a long time off the track…

5:00 – ZULU DAWN – Returning after nearly 600 days off, Mick and the team have worked extremely hard to get him back. We’ve given him lots of time and that has resulted in him coming back to full strength. He is a horse we always thought a lot of, he ran well in some hot bumpers before a good run at Newbury in a novice hurdle. He then had an injury that’s seen him out for a while. A lovely horse who now deserves to who us what he can do on the track and hopefully we have a clear run with him. His owners have been very patient so hopefully they will be rewarded. Today’s race does look fairly useful but if he’s in top form he should definitely run a nice race.

7:05 – CALUM GILHOOLEY – A bit of a legend is Calum. A very consistent horse who hasn’t done a lot wrong in his career, he finished first past the post at Stratford before being disqualified, he then was beaten a length at Cartmel. He is a trier and that’s all you can ask for in a racehorse. His BDR Syndicate owners are a brilliant bunch and will be hoping he can get a result today. A tight little race and you’d think that we’re fairly exposed but definitely place chances and hopefully one better!

7:35 – JESSICA RABBIT – Well if one horse deserves to pick one up this summer it’s this mare, she’s placed or won her last six races. She’s not the easiest to win with. The trip has probably stretched her on her last two starts, but she’s such a strong traveller as has seen herself infront for a long way before finding nothing off the bridle. I think she’s traded very short in running on her last two or three runs! She’s frustrating to watch because she does everything right until the final part of the race. This trip will hopefully give her every chance, she needs everything fall into place for her. Lilly Pinchin in the saddle and takes 5lbs off, place chances and hopefully if everything goes her way, better.

There were more sales over in Ireland last week and with the help of Mel Smith we secured a nice 3yo by Gamut (pic below). A half brother to Aviewtosea, a horse we think a lot of at home. Aviewtosea has won a bumper, a hurdle and you’d like to think he’ll win a chase one day! Let’s hope his brother has some of his ability, a nice looking type.

Have a great week, we’ll have a new episode of The Martins Hill Mercury for you later in the week…
