Last week was one of the most exciting weeks in the yards history… the whole yard was buzzing to watch our first Grand National runner, Ami Desbois.

Many of the staff who live at the yard watched the race together in the house, you could hear a pin drop before the race. Ami looked a picture in the paddock, not a surprise as Isaac always makes our horses look picture perfect at the races.

We were all very nervous but so excited at the same time. Ami Desbois and Kielan dropped in and got a good view at the fences. Ami was in a real rhythm and after the Canal Turn he found himself in mid division travelling very strongly. Annoyingly he was brought down at the chair and that was his race over, the Grand National is always full of hard luck stories.

The best news of the day through was that he was absolutely fine after his race! We were so proud of Ami, he gave his owners a day to remember and gave all of the staff at Martins Hill some recognition for all of their hard work.

We produced a video about Ami Desbois and his journey to the Grand National, we released it on Friday and it proved to be really popular! Over 25,000 of you have watched it now… if you missed it you can watch it below!

We’ve been hitting the crossbar recently with our runners…

Ask Henry ran another blinder at Warwick to finish 2nd, he surely will be winning soon. A very consistent horse.

Getthepot was also agonisingly close, finishing 3rd at Huntingdon. He was finishing very strongly and probably had a little bit too much to do. He’ll stay three miles over time but still has the pace to win over shorter trips. Again, he will be winning races!

Yesterday Pop The Champagne ran a blinder to finish 4th at Cheltenham in the bumper. It was a great effort considering she was carrying a penalty for her win at Lingfield. A nice little mare who will give her owner Jill Phillips lots of fun days out.

Jill was in attendance yesterday at Cheltenham, it’s so lovely to see owners back on racecourses. Hopefully not long before we see crowds!

Runners over the next few days…

Aviewtosea heads to Bangor tomorrow for his first start over hurdles, Missthecuddles goes to Stratford and Dublin Four heads up to Ayr! It won’t be long before lots of our winter horses start to get roughed off. We’re waiting for a couple more weeks of sunshine and some better grass.

The summer team are all ticking over nicely… Here are some pictures of the summer team this morning. Have a fantastic weekend!
