It wasn’t to be for England in Euro 2020, although they gave it a really good go!

England were defeated on penalties at Wembley against Italy but how good did it feel to reach a final?

A brilliant competition that hopefully won’t be marred by a few fools on twitter. Yes sadly Marus Rashford, Jason Sancho and Buyako Saka all faced racial abuse online after the game. The big social media channels really need to start naming and shaming the attackers, a lot more needs to be done. In the racing industry we are quite used to receiving online abuse, usually by raging punters.

Marus Rashford, Jason Sancho and Buyako Saka are national hero’s, they’re brilliant role models. These three young athletes, as well as the rest of the England team have brought so much joy to households across the whole of England in the past few weeks.

Back to the yard, a quiet week for us. The highlight though was of course Hattaab winning at Worcester on Monday. It didn’t look likely for much of the race that he’d finish in the places, let alone go and win. An awesome ride by Kielan. We tend to aim Hattaab at races over the ‘Fixed Brush’ style hurdles as he enjoy’s jumping them. We did try him, rather unsuccessfully, over fences last season but he didn’t look like enjoying them at all! He’s quite a clever horse and is a lovely, quiet ride at home. It was great to see him back in the winners enclosure.

We decided against declaring New Zealander to run at Newton Abbot yesterday as it rained far too much.

Today we have a runner at Southwell…

CAST IN GREY runs at 7:45 in the mares Handicap Hurdle, her first try over three miles. Hopefully she can have places chances, she’s fit and well at home. Kielan Woods rides her for Foxtrot Racing who are enjoying a fine time at the moment! Another winner for them yesterday at Newton Abbot. Lets hope we can add to their tally.

Potential other runners this week include Alfoski, Chat To Charlie, New Zealander, Callum Gilhooley, Ask Henry, The Distant Lady, Jessica Rabbit, Missthecuddles and Eagles Realm. It might be, weather depending, a nice busy week!

News this morning of the release of a BBC Panorama documentary which carries the title ‘The Dark Side of Horse Racing’, lets hope it’s fair and balanced… We love to give our followers a real behind the scenes insight into life at a racing yard with our social media updates and Mercury episodes. You can see from there how much we respect and love our horses.

To end on a positive, here are some of our ex-racehorses enjoying their retirements…

Many of ours have gone to Steph and her mother Angie. They have done a wonderful job giving lots of our old favourites a good life after racing… they have the likes of Another Raleagh, Harry Hunt, Joe Twist, Porta Vogie, Ikorodu Road, Cuil Rogue, The Cotswold Grey many more.

Steph, who you’ll all know very well, has retrained Harry Hunt (Boo) and The Cotswold Grey (Woody) and now both horses enjoy eventing. Steph and Woody finished 2nd on Sunday!

Another horse featured in today’s blog is the recently retired ‘Follow The Swallow’, he is now enjoying life with Michaela Ryder. She has another ex-racer for ‘Swallow’ to be friends with along with two ponies.

Have a great week…
